How to use the WHAT Map

Logging in

To log in, click on the 'Member Login' button on the left, then select the WHAT Map sheet you wish to view.
(NB You must be a subscriber to this sheet, and have a valid username and password for it)
Next you must enter your username and password and click 'Login'
(NB You can use the 'full member login' to access all 5 What map sheets.
Downloading the latest flash plugin

Most pc's will thesedays come with the latest flash plugin built in. If you do not have the plugin, click on the 'Get macromedia flash player' button. The macromedia download page will then be displayed, and from here you can install the player.

Opening and using the WHAT Map sheet

Once you have downloaded the flash player, click on the main sheet button to open that sheet in flash.
The sheet will open in a new window, which is 1000x522 pixels. You may re-size the sheet window by clicking and dragging on the window corners.
To zoom into the WHAT Map sheet, 'right-click' with your mouse and choose 'Zoom In'.
(The map will increase in size within the frame by 50%).
To zoom out again, 'right-click' and choose 'zoom out' or 'Show all'.
Once you have zoomed into the map, you can 'pan around' the map by clicking and dragging within the frame.

The menus

Layers can be turned on and off on the WHAT map by using the 'layer menu' to the bottom left of each sheet.
A cross within the menu layer button indicates that the layer is switched on, whereas a solid grey fill indicates that the layer has been switched off.
You will notice that by default the main geology, sub geology and digest layers have been switched off

Well information
Click on the wells to open the well information boxes. these boxes can remain open and accessible from your task bar, or you can close them.

Information boxes are planned for other UKCS data such as pipelines and fields in the future.

Links to the latest Volume of the UK Discovery Digest - Volume 17 have been added.

The most recent update of the WHAT Map includes a revision of the geology base (structure/hydrocarbon kitchen areas) and an extension of the reservoir/geology layers to the East Shetland area, completing a full set maps for the northern, central and southern North Sea areas.


Future Editions :

Addition of individual well data points for reservoir layers to Central Graben and Southern North Sea sheets (as recently done for Northern North Sea sheet).

Update field outlines and add field information.
