| Flash 9 and the WHAT Map PROBLEM SOLVING |
Flash Player 9 (v9.0.115.0) and WHAT Map standalone CD
Although the following issue should have been resolved with the latest Flash 10 download please note that there is a known issue with Flash Player 9 Update 3 (v9.0.115.0), not functioning properly in Internet Explorer even after the Global Security Settings for Flash have been enabled. Solution: Download Flash 10 from www.adobe.com/downloads/ or View content with a browser that uses the Flash Player plug-in rather than the Flash Player ActiveX control. Any Mozilla-based browser, such as FireFox or Safari, will not exhibit these issues. or Use the online version of the WHAT map. |

- WELL TEXTBOXES DO NOT OPEN WHEN WELL IS CLICKED (HAND APPEARS BUT TEXTBOX DOESN’T OPEN) -
Macromedia have introduced changes in Flash 9 which may affect the way the WHAT Map performs. SPECIFICALLY WELL TEXTBOXES DO NOT OPEN WHEN A WELL IS CLICKED. (HAND APPEARS BUT TEXTBOX DOESN’T OPEN) If you or your IT department have installed Flash 9 this may affect you. (This is a similar problem to the upgrade to Flash 8). Here's what it says on their site: |
| Security changes in Flash Player 9 |
In Macromedia Flash Player 9, Macromedia has extended the Flash Player security environment to provide special permissions for files loaded from the local file system or LAN connections, such as //server1. In some instances, content that worked in Flash Player 7 may be interrupted by a prompt for a user to "trust" the file. Until trust is provided, the content may not function correctly if it attempts to communicate with the network or another file (SWF, HTML, etc) that is able to communicate with the network. When this occurs, the Flash Player will inform the user of the need to "trust" the file with the following dialog box:

| What this means for the WHAT Map |
It means you ought to get the security warning above when you try and click on a well link. In practice you may not even get this, and the little hand will just point annoyingly when you click on a well, but nothing else will happen.
| Here's what you need to do (or get your nice IT people to do) |
If you get the warning box, click on settings. If not, right click and select settings, as shown in the picture below (check you are running Flash 9 at the same time!).
| You should get the following box appear. Click on "Advanced" to proceed.

Somewhat bizarrely you are taken to the Macromedia help page on the web, so I assume that you need to online to do this, and select the “Global Security Settings Panel” from the Table of Contents on the left.

You have now reached the Flash Control Panel, masquerading as an image in a webpage. Click the 'Always allow' radio button. Click the down arrow near next to edit locations.

| Now click on "Add location.." |

| And then on "Browse for folder". |

| Select the WHAT Map folder, on your hard drive or network. |

| Click OK and the control panel should look something like shown here. |

| Now go back to the WHAT Map. Close it and open it again and all should be working again. |
